Makin’ copies in 1998 (?) in my first month or so of employment at Vignette. Small crowd, had met almost everyone in the office. Was it the Far West location? I had a brief, comic, awkward conversation with someone who was also in the copy closet doing something with office supplies. I think they needed stamps. Then I went back to the office I shared with Phil Barnhart and asked who it was.
“Haven’t seen him around before,” I said.
“What did he look like?” asked Phil.
“Reminded me a little of Rick Moranis, maybe?” I said.
“You just met Ross Garber,” said Phil.
“I’ve heard the name...” I said vaguely. And Phil proceeded to educate me in patient detail.
Oh. OH. ...ohhhh.
I’m pretty sure I had no further occasion to chat with Ross for the next 3-4 years, but I will never forget that stunned moment of “met a celebrity - what exactly did I say?!” panic.
